Mission Statement and Rules


  1. NAME:
    The name of this group shall be Northern California Japanese Teachers’ Association.
    The purpose of the association shall be to foster the teaching and study of the Japanese and Japanese culture to promote the professional interest of its members.
    The membership shall be composed of teachers and any other persons interested in the purpose of the association.
    1. The officers of the association shall be the president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer.
    2. These officers shall be elected at the annual meeting of the association. The president shall appoint the secretary.
    3. The term for these officers shall be two years.
    4. These officers shall be elected at the annual meeting of the association. The president and the secretary shall be elected in even years and the vice-president and the treasurer shall be elected in odd years.
    The administration of the association shall be in the hands of the Executive Council.
    The association will hold annual meeting on dates to be determined by the executive council. The members present shall constitute a quorum. Additional meetings may called at the discretion of the executive council.
    This constitution may be amended by a majority vote at any annual meeting.


  1. Duties of officers:
      1. It shall be the duty of the president to preside at all meetings; to call meetings of the executive council when necessary; to arrange the program for the year with the assistance of the executive council.
      2. The immediate post president shall b be designated as the official representative to the FLANC Executive Council.
    1. It shall be the duty of the vice-president to assist the president at all times; to preside at meetings in the absence of the president.
    2. It shall be the duty of the secretary to take the minutes of all meetings, to conduct the business correspondence; to keep an accurate list of the members of the executive council.
    3. It shall be the duty of the treasurer to collect and disburse all moneys (the expenses); to keep a list of all members and notify them of the meetings.
  2. Executive Council:
    1. The executive council shall consists of a) the officers, b) the outgoing president, and c) such additional members as are considered necessary to assure adequate representation of after consultation with the other officers.
    2. The executive council shall meet prior to the annual meeting of the association. Special meetings may be held at the request of the president.
  3. Dues:
    1. Dues for all classes of membership shall be set annually by the Board.
    2. Membership dues shall be fifteen dollars per year.
    3. Associate membership dues shall be five dollars per year.
      Associate membership is open to full-time students.
  4. IV. Committees:
    The executive council shall appoint such committees as are needed.
  5. V. Amendments:
    These bylaws may be amended at the annual meeting by a vote of the members present, provided members are notified in advance of the meeting.
